Hydrate Your Body and Mind

For mornings when you wake up feeling tired and dehydrated or after an intense workout when you need that replenishment – your go-to drink should always be Coconut Water! Think of it as a natural sports drink without all the sugar and artificial coloring. Manufactured sports drinks lead to a bloated, upset stomach when consumed very quickly. Coconut water is Mother Nature’s drink of choice when it comes to refueling your body with all the nutrients it lacks when you’re feeling low on energy and need that pick me up.

What does Coconut water have that other drinks don’t you ask?
Coconut water is full of natural sugars, salts and vitamins such as magnesium, potassium and calcium, making it the perfect drink to cure fatigue and dehydration. It’s low in carbs, has only 1% fat, and is more nutritious than a glass of milk or orange juice.Coconut water provides remedies for the following:-Dehydration

-Hangovers (due to the high amounts of potassium)

-Post workout electrolyte replenishment

-Aiding weight loss

-Regulating body temperature

-Cleansing and detoxifying your body

How does it taste?

You wouldn’t expect it but Coconut water is actually very light and mildly sweet tasting, which is why you can buy flavoured ones to mix it up. Coconut water is derived from younger coconuts which have a lot more liquid than the more mature ones because water has not yet been absorbed by the meat of the nut. If you want to experiment, try adding your own ingredients to prop the flavor, using ingredients like vanilla extract, lemon or lime juice, agave nectar, ginger, or any other favourite juices like pomegranate or cranberry! You can also buy it with or without pulp, just like orange juice, so it’s totally up to you and your taste buds.

Cooking with Coconut water:

Don’t limit this natural water to just drinking – get creative and add it to your everyday meals. We get most of our liquids from the foods we eat so why not make them count? You can add it to anything from a sweet dessert to a savory Thai chicken and rice recipe.

Try some of these recipes to start off with:

Coconut Water Rice

Garden Bounty Salad

Hangover Elixir Smoothie

With all of its health properties, plus the fact that it has no added sugar, colors or preservatives, I definitely rate this one a 10/10! Buy in bulk to reduce price impact, as it rings higher on the register compared to regular sports drinks or bottled water. My favourite brands at the moment are VICCO, O.N.E. and Vita Coco. You can even buy on-the-go Coconut water packages much like crystal light and store them in your gym bag or lunch tote for emergencies.

Coconuts are one of my favourite go-to health foods and may be yours too!

Brought to you by your Health Nut,

Nikky
