On the Go Oatmeal

As you all probably know, breakfast is the most important part of your diet. By eating within an hour of waking up, you are waking up your digestive system as well and increasing your metabolism. How can you possibly burn calories and lose weight if you body is waking up at lunch instead of breakfast? For this very reason its crucial that you make sure to get a well balanced meal first thing in the morning that will refuel your body. Since you’ve probably been sleeping for the last 7-8 hours or so, you want to make sure your feeding it what it needs.

Breakfast Tips!

  • Stick to whole grains (Ezekiel bread)
  • Opt for low-fat dairy (Greek yogurt or cottage cheese)
  • low-fat protein (peanut butter or eggs)
  • Fruits and veggies (smoothies or parfait)

Like many others I to sometimes forget to eat first thing in the morning… so what do I do you ask? I whip up my “On-the-go-Oatmeal” the night before or in the morning, as I’m running out the door. I will purposely prepare of few Ziploc bags of this mixture so that no matter what I have something on hand. I placed the ingrediants in a bowl to show you but normally I package them in bags.

On-the-go-Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup of organic old fashioned oats (they cook faster than steel cut)
  • tbs of dried cranberries
  • tbs of slithered almonds
  • tbs of ground chia seeds
  • 1/2 tbs of organic brown sugar’

*Mix it up all together in a bowl or Ziploc bag and add 1 cup of hot water when your ready to enjoy it. If your on the go you can just stop at a Starbucks or any convenience store and they will usually have hot water. If your at work then just turn on the kettle and you’ll have breakfast served in no time.                                                                                                                                                                                      Your Health Nut!

  1. Does it really taste good with just water? The packaged oatmeal always has some kind of milky powder to make it creamy. Chia seeds usually need time to thicken a substance, don’t they? I’m very intrigued to try this! All summer long I’ve been making overnight oats soaked in milk or yogurt, now that it’s colder I’m ready for a warmer version. I will try it!

    • Oh for sure! I mean if your trying to cut back on calories water is always your best bet but it tastes good too. The brown sugar and cinnamon help for flavour but, you could add some unsweetened almond milk and do half and half with water to make it creamier. As for the chia seeds, you only need them to soak if your using them to make pudding or as an egg substitute other than that their great raw. Hope this helps:)
